To the Dungeon! (A Review of Dungeon Fighter)

Are you a hero, or merely a toothless charlatan? You better hope to be a hero, because the king has summoned all those claiming to be heroes, and that includes you, and done the only thing that makes sense in order to separate the real heroes from bogus lowlifes. That is, he has tossed you and a few others into a dungeon with only one purpose: fight your way out alive.

If you survive, you will prove yourself a true hero.  Fail, and… well, the kingdom can always use a little more fertilizer. It will be no easy task, as it will require great skill and a bit of luck.  And a bit of silliness.

This is Dungeon Fighter.

The Legends Have Returned! (A Review of Legends of Andor)

So begins your first legend in the cooperative fantasy adventure epic game that is Legends of Andor. Your quests will take you far across the countryside, into territories unknown and mysterious realms, bringing you face-to-face with monsters, mystics, and treasure, all in the hopes that you will succeed and go down in history as one of the Legends... of Andor.

Don't Be a Fool (A Review of Gauntlet of Fools)

Sometimes running the gauntlet just isn't enough.  Sometimes you want to brag, to taunt your opponents, to stand up and shout that you can run this gauntlet better than anyone else even if you had one hand tied behind your back-and then actually do it.

In Gauntlet of Fools, well known game designer Donald X attempts to capture the feel of a suicidal dungeon run, complete with bragging, a multitude of monsters, and dozens of unique fantasy RPG-style Heroes in a game that takes about 30 minutes to play.

Kicking Down Doors and Taking Names (A Review of Munchkin)

Sometimes when you play a game, you're not looking for a cerebral experience or a tense strategic challenge.  Instead you're just looking to kick down some doors, fight some nasty monsters, and have a few laughs with your buddies.

Such a game is Munchkin, a popular card game that attempts to shave away complex RPG elements like stats, skills, and social role-playing, while capturing (and parodying) common fantasy RPG tropes such as leveling up, killing monsters, and scoring loads of useful treasure.

Once Upon the Burg (A Review of Kingsburg)

It's a very lovely burg...

Sometimes you're competing to be king.  Sometimes you are the king, trying to subdue your neighbors.  And sometimes you're just trying to rule as much of the king's land as possible.

But in Kingsburg, you're out to expand the King's land, power, and prosperity.  You are one of the King's chosen leaders, sent out to tame the lands, build civilization, and destroy evil monsters.  In this case, though, you're not alone - the King and his advisors mean to help you as much as they can along the way.  Does this game have a glorious bounty, or will the kingdom crumble to dust?
