Actually learning to play isn't too difficult. Every card has a LOT of uses, but all cards have these same uses and the graphic design is really great for teaching.<br /><br />I'm awful at this game, but I really enjoy it and agree with all of your points. We've played Republic exclusively at this point as the rules recommend starting here. We've not grown tired of it (after 10+ games), so we haven't moved on to the more cutthroat version.
