There are ...I have the Beowulf version of Kingdoms. There are a lot of similarities between Knizia's game and Voluspa, but you hit the nail on the head with scoring. The scoring in Voluspa is much more transparent and, I think, lends the game more tension than the Kingdoms where you only score a few times per game.
